ENERGY MANAGEMENT AND PROTECTION SYSTEM (EMPS) GENERAL FEATURES
The system monitors and supervises the status of each power supply device via connection to smart equipment (e.g. switch protection relays, measurements, etc.) and/or discrete (hard-wired) digital and analogue signals. Information are received and managed by smart units called RTUs.
RTUs are connected via smart networks (Ethernet LAN, for example) to DCS-type systems in the control room.
The EMPS monitors the electrical switchgears individual loads inside the substation and acquires data from the installed equipment using the most common existing industrial communication protocols; it also enables the instant transmission of commands and alarms to the supervisor, displays graphs and trends, and analyses any malfunctions.
Everything is then represented on a graphical interface (Personal Computer or Operator Panel) that allows the operator to view statuses and trends and change the settings as required.
In addition, the system can manage the load shedding control (Load Shedding) and power splitting (Load Sharing), the preventive maintenance management and any fault reporting.
